Dongwe Ocean View is located north of the village of Bwejuu on the southeast coast of Zanzibar.
Set on a lovely beach immediately to the south of the much large Dongwe Club, this medium sized place sells itself as a boutique hotel.
When the present owners took it over in 2008 it was, to be frank, a bit of a disaster area ... unsympathetically designed and rather run-down.
Since then a good deal of work has been carried out to provide a more contemporary feel, with a nice pool area and thatched bar out over the beach.
The sixteen rooms are still contained within the same two rather suburban blocks, although efforts have been made to freshen the interiors.
Dongwe Ocean View is now a pretty decent option, especially for those people who would rather avoid the thatched bungalow style of accommodation that is more commonly found on the island.
